You are trying to earn money online or are looking for ways to generate supplemental income. Have you ever considered that you can get paid simply by testing out websites and phone apps? Really. I am dead serious. Welcome to the field of usability testing! Usability testing, also known as User-experience (UX) testing, is a testing methodology that assesses how users interact with digital products. These digital products often include websites, blog posts, online stores, or apps. In short, companies are interested in learning about how efficient, effective, and functional their websites, interfaces, and designs are to their consumers-aka users.

I am going to highlight five of my favorite platforms where you can get paid testing websites. Let us begin:

Paid Website Testing Opportunity 1: Userfeel

The first place where you can get paid by testing out websites is with Userfeel. Userfeel is one of the biggest UX testing platforms. According to its website, “Userfeel Ltd is a UK and Greece based team of professionals who have been working in Analytics, Website Optimization, Web Design, and Web Development since 2005…Userfeel makes it easy to discover the issues, doubts, hesitations and needs of your target audience.”. Good news: Userfeel is looking for paid website and app testers. Here is what you need to know about Userfeel:

Userfeel UX testing information:

Length of tests:

Userfeel tests take about 10-20 minutes and are completed with your home phone or smartphone.

Website Testing rate:

Userfeel pays $10usd per successfully completed test.

Payment frequency:

You get paid one week after each test is completed.

Payment:

You can either get paid with via PayPal or place your payment(s) into an Amazon Gift card.

Entrance tests?

You must apply and take an (unpaid) qualification test to become an approved paid tester with the platform. The review takes 7-15 days.

Stipulations?

  • All completed tests are rated; the more thorough you are in your testing review (and speak out-loud), the higher your ratings will be.
  • You have the optional opportunity to evaluate adult websites.

Paid Website Testing Opportunity 2: Trymyui

The second place where you can get paid by testing out websites is with trymyui. Similarly, to Userfeel, Trymyui offers the service of allowing companies to gauge usability experience across websites and apps. They offer a series of moderated and unmoderated assessment opportunities. Here is what you need to know about Trymyui:

Trymyui UX Testing information:

Length of tests:

On average, tests on Trymyui take about 20 minutes to complete.

Testing rate:

Testers get paid $10usd for every successfully completed test.

Payment frequency:

Payments are issued every Friday through PayPal.

Entrance tests?

Trymyui does require an (unpaid) entrance qualification test before being eligible to become a paid tester on the platform.

Paid Website Testing Opportunity 3: UserTesting

The third place where you can get paid by testing out websites is with UserTesting. They offer a rich array of moderated and unmoderated tests. UserTesting is one of the most popular Usability testing platforms (and honestly? One of my favorites-check out my in-depth review, here). In my experience, they offer the most paid testing opportunities. Here is what you need to know about UserTesting:

UserTesting Testing information:

Length & rate of tests:

You can earn either $4 for every 5-minute test, $10 USD for every 20-minute test or anywhere between $30 USD to $120 USD for live interviews.

Compensation frequency:

With UserTesting, you get paid exactly one week after the successful completion of tests.

Payment:

All UserTesting payments are issued via PayPal.

Entrance tests?

UserTesting does require an (unpaid) entrance qualification test before being eligible to become a paid tester on the platform. You typically hear back within a week.

Paid Website Testing Opportunity 4: Mindswarms

The fourth place where you can get paid by testing out websites is with Mindswarms. This platform is a little different than the previously mentioned sites. Mindswarms is a platform that utilizes mobile video surveys to understand the emotions of your consumers. Yes, you heard that: this company pays you to do tests on video. Here is what you need to know about Mindswarms:

Mindswarms Testing information:

Length of tests:

All Mindswarms tests are consistent in that they issue ten question studies conducted via video survey. Video respondent time may vary, depending on the nature of the questions.

Testing rate:

All video evaluations conducted via Mindswarms pay $50.

Payment:

Paypal issues all payments for Mindswarms.

Entrance tests?

Unlike the platforms, Mindswarms does NOT require any entrance tests prior to any paid testing opportunities. You just must be eligible for the presented testing opportunities. All tests have a screening.

Paid Website Testing Opportunity 5: Respondent

The fifth place where you can get paid by testing out websites is with Respondent. If you work in the corporate sector, or as an industry professional, then this platform is for you. According to their website, “Respondent is the best place to leverage your professional expertise for paid research interviews.” Respondent primarily offers paid opportunities to become a part of a moderated, live testing panel. Participants often recieve interview questions about their technical areas of expertise in relation to products. Here is what you need to know about Respondent:

Respondent Testing information:

Length of tests:

Tests can vary in length and can last anywhere from 1-5 hours.

Testing rate:

  • Sales and support can earn an average of $100 per hour
  • Enterprise software users & Marketers can earn about $150 per hour
  • Software developers $200
  • Business owners can earn an average of $500 per hour
  • And executives can earn about $700 per hour

Compensation frequency:

PayPal automatically issues payments after successful completing a test or interview.

Method of Payment:

Paypal issues all payments for Respondent, but Respondent does subtract a 5% fulfilment fee on paid tests.

Entrance tests?

Respondent does NOT require any entrance tests prior to any paid testing opportunities. You just must be eligible for the presented testing opportunities.
